Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Foum Zguid → Erg Chigaga

Our adventure begins with an early departure from Marrakech, crossing the majestic High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka pass. We'll pass through the saffron-growing region of Taliouine and the carpet-making town of Taznakht. Our route then takes us to Foum Zguid, a town on the edge of the desert where the paved road ends. From here, our 4x4 vehicle ventures off-road, driving across the vast, dry lakebed of Iriqui, a former stage of the legendary Paris-Dakar Rally. We'll also stop to see ancient fossil beds. As the afternoon unfolds, the stunning, wild dunes of Erg Chigaga will appear on the horizon. We'll arrive at our secluded desert camp, where you'll be greeted with mint tea and settle in for a night of dinner, campfire music, and stargazing.

Day 2: A Full Day in the Sahara (Erg Chigaga)

Wake up to the serene beauty of a desert sunrise. Today is dedicated to exploring the magnificent Erg Chigaga, the largest sand sea in Morocco. After breakfast, you'll have several options. You can embark on a longer camel trek (around 2-3 hours) to explore the deeper dunes, try your hand at sandboarding on the high slopes, or visit a nomadic family to learn about their unique and resilient way of life. Lunch will be a picnic in the shade of a tamarisk tree. In the late afternoon, you can climb the highest dune (La Grande Dune) to watch another spectacular sunset. We will spend a second night at the desert camp, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the tranquility and magic of the Sahara.

Day 3: Erg Chigaga → M'hamid → Draa Valley → Agdz

After breakfast at the camp, we continue our 4x4 journey across the desert, this time heading towards the town of M'hamid, the original gateway to the Sahara. From M'hamid, we join the paved road and enter the legendary Draa Valley, a stunning ribbon of green that is home to millions of palm trees and a string of ancient, fortified kasbahs. We'll drive through the historic town of Zagora and follow the valley's path. You'll have plenty of stops to admire the lush oases and earthen architecture. Our day ends in the charming town of Agdz, located in the heart of the valley, where we'll check into a beautiful kasbah-style hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Agdz → Ouarzazate → Ait Benhaddou → Marrakech

On our final day, we leave Agdz after breakfast and drive towards Ouarzazate, the "Hollywood of Morocco," where we can stop to see the Taourirt Kasbah. Our main stop of the day will be the iconic Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site that we will explore thoroughly. After our visit, we'll enjoy lunch before beginning our final drive back to Marrakech. We'll cross the High Atlas Mountains one last time, descending from the heights back to the plains. We expect to arrive in Marrakech in the early evening, where your driver will drop you off at your accommodation, concluding your deep south adventure.
